Dull, dingy, yellow headlamps are as common as they are aggravating to drivers. They cause reduced visibility and are very unsightly. Most modern vehicles use plastic headlamps and many will discolor with age. Replacement is expensive and unnecessary. They are surprisingly easy to restore with inexpensive cleaners.

The problem is very tiny cracks on the surface of the poly-carbonate plastic. Weather and time cause the surface to crack, causing the dull appearance. Several companies including 3M and Meguiars make polishes that easily remove the scratches.

A buffer makes the job easier, but with a little effort, rubbing by hand will get the job done.  Just follow the instructions on the bottle.  Below is an example of a 2000 Toyota Camry. About five minutes with a hand towel and you can see the results.

Clean dull yellow headlamps

Almost any auto parts store will have plastic headlamp cleaner. Pickup a bottle and give it a go. All you have to loose are those yellow headlamps.
